Sidney Miller, 98, of Waynesboro, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio, and Bobtown, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, in Manorcare Health Services, Chambersburg, where he had resided since January 1997. He had been in failing health for the past three years. Mr. Miller spent the early part of his life in Boone County, then came to the Uniontown area in the 1920s, where he spent most of his working life in the coal mines in Fayette and Greene counties. He retired from Shannopin Mine in Bobtown in 1962. He was a member of UMWA Local 6159 and for many years was a member of Bobtown United Methodist Church, where he served as adult Sunday school teacher and custodian. Mr. Miller enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He remained active well into his 90s and lived his final years near his three sons in the Waynesboro area. On December 23, 1922, he married his first wife, Vina A. Darby Miller, mother of his seven children, who died December 8, 1972. He then married Thelma P. Perry Miller, who died in 1980. His third wife was Lettie Smith Miller, who died in 1984. At the time of his death, he was married to Mary G. Marcum Miller, who is residing in Youngstown, Ohio, near her children. Surviving are three sons, Arthur D. and James Byrl Miller, both of Waynesboro, and Sidney Miller of Mont Alto; a daughter, Anna M. Bargerstock of Kent, Ohio; 31 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a number of stepchildren; and a half brother, Wilburn Morris of Youngstown, Ohio. Deceased are two sons, Virgil E.
