Margaret L. Popovich, 80, of Washington, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mrs. Popovich had lived in Washington since 1974, where she was a member of St. Hilary Church. She had been employed at the former Continental Can Co. in Canonsburg, Gimbels Department Store in Pittsburgh and prior to her retirement, she had been a manager at Fashion Hosiery in Canonsburg. She was very active in American Legion Auxiliary Unit 902, where she served as past unit president. She was a member of the Washington, Fayette and Greene County Council and a member of the No. 8 and No. 40 Salon 495. She was a member of the Wednesday Afternoon Bowling League. On July 6, 1942, she married Peter Popovich, Jr., who survives. Also surviving is a son, the Rev. Edward K. Popovich of Burgettstown; a daughter, Edwina L. "Edie" Coman of Washington; three grandchildren, Denice R. Payton, Matthew T. Popovich and Bernadette M. Dayak; a sister, Anna M. Ross of Houston; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Victor OBocki and John Obocki; and one sister, Betty Whitfield.
