Hazel Mae Johnston, 77, of Snowflake, Ariz., died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, in her home.

She was born February 21, 1921, in Washington, a daughter of Walker McCalmont and Edith Mae Simpson Henderson.
Mrs. Johnston was a homemaker.
She was raised in Washington, then moved to Houston, where she lived much of her life.
In 1950, she married Loran Johnston, and the couple resided in New Philadelphia, Ohio, where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Her husband died in 1994, and Mrs. Johnston moved to Snowflake in 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen Burton of Snowflake; two grandsons, Charles and Dennis Chechuck; two sisters, Kathryn Johnston of Wintersville, and Dorothy Farner of Burgettstown; and a brother, Clair Henderson of Panama City, Fla.
