Alvan Warren Vernon, 71, of Washington, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Humbert Lane Health Center. Mr. Vernon was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington. He attended Washington High School and was an automobile salesman for 40 years in the Washington area, working for a number of dealers, including Budd Baer and Arnold Pontiac. During World War II, Mr. Vernon served in the South Pacific with the United States Navy. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, Washington. On August 21, 1949, in Washington, he married Patricia Williams. Mrs. Vernon survives. Also surviving are a son, Eric G. Vernon of Wheeling, W.Va.; one daughter, Susan Vernon Kozak of Crafton; two sisters, Jessie Vernon Smith and Mary Vernon Fischer, both of Washington; two grandsons, Jason and Justin Kozak; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his brother, George "Bill" Vernon, and two sisters, Reba Vernon Chaplin and Ruth Vernon. At the request of the family, there will be no public visitation.
