Dr. Louis A. "Doc" Romito Sr., 76, of Charleroi, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, in his home. Dr. Romito was a 1940 graduate of Charleroi High School and attended Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he studied pre-med and received his doctorate degree in podiatry at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1949. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Romito was a podiatrist in Charleroi for 38 years until his retirement in October 1986. He was a resident of Charleroi from 1926 to 1988, then resided in Hollywood, Fla., from 1988 until 1997, when he returned to Charleroi. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 22 and F&AM Lodge 615, all of Charleroi. He was a member and past president of Mon Valley Caravan 17 and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Syria Temple, both of Pittsburgh. He also was a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, as well as the Western Pennsylvania and state associations. He served as a consultant on the Podiatry State Legislative Committee and was a member of the Sigma Nu collegiate fraternity and the Alpha Gamma Kappa professional fraternity. He was a member, past president and secretary of Charleroi Rotary and a member and past president of Charleroi Area School Board, serving 12 years on the board. He served actively in the preparation and organizing of the present Mon Valley Transit Authority and had been active in the Mon Valley Boy Scouts and Mon Valley YMCA. He served as the trainer for the Charleroi High School football and basketball teams for many years and was inducted into the Charleroi Football Hall of Fame on September 17, 1990. Surviving are his wife of more than 50 years, Lucille Caricato Romito; three sons, Dr. Dirk A. Romito of North Strabane, Robert L. Romito of Washington and Louis A. Romito Jr. of Charleroi; four grandchildren, Rad, Rayni, Tori and Dominic Romito; and two sisters, Bertha Arcadipane of Wellington, Fla., and Dorothy Duffett of Palm City, Fla.
