Retired business teacher, guidance counselor
Gina Filipponi, 77, of Slovan, died Saturday, February 28, 1998, in Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born April 13, 1920, in Bavington (Windy Hill), a daughter of Ralph and Albina Grilli Filipponi.
She was a graduate of Union High School in Burgettstown and the University of Pittsburgh with cum laude undergraduate and graduate degrees. While an undergraduate, she was a member of the Business Education Honorary, Delta Delta Lambda and the Education Honorary Pi Lambda Theta.
She was also a member of the Graduate Business Honorary, Delta Pi Epsilon and Pitt Italian National Room Committee.
For 42 years, Miss Filipponi was employed by Burgettstown Area School District as a business teacher and guidance counselor.
In 1979, she was selected Pennsylvania's Outstanding Business Educator by Pennsylvania Business Educators Association and was honored with a lifetime membership in Tri-State Business Educators Association.
On June 11, 1982, she was awarded "Citizen of the Year" honors by the Burgettstown Lions Club.
She actively participated in numerous professional organizations, including the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Burgettstown Area Education Association and Pennsylvania Business Educators Association.
She served on the board of directors for Burgettstown Community Library.
She was a member of Slovan Cameo Club and Bridge Club.
Miss Filipponi was a member and an elder of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Burgettstown.
Surviving are four sisters, Dina Filipponi, her twin; Irene Abate and Clara Giacomelli, all of Slovan, and Mary DiOrio of Burgettstown; two brothers, William Filipponi and Dante Filipponi, both of Slovan; and several nieces and nephews.
