Robert Joseph Ciaffoni, 73, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Friday, February 27, 1998. In 1954, he graduated from Washington and Jefferson College. Mr. Ciaffoni was a pioneer in the development of comparative stylistics, which are on display at W&J. In 1950, he served in the Korean War as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; three sons; three daughters; and nine grandchildren. A private viewing is being held for immediate family only. Memorial contributions may be made to Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pa., 100 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, where he was an active volunteer for his granddaughter.
