William J. Staffen, 70, of New Eagle, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Mr. Staffen retired in 1987 from Combustion Engineering with 44 years of employment. He was a member of Transfiguration Church, Monongahela, and a life member of New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department. He was a sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Force military police during World War II. Surviving are two sons, William Staffen Jr. of Monongahela and Richard Alan Staffen of Courtney; a daughter, Donna Wilcher of Elizabeth; seven grandchildren, William, Thomas, Tonie and Brandon Staffen and Keith, Tarah and Bryan Wilcher; a brother, Francis Staffen of Monongahela; and a sister, Patricia Prentice of Monongahela. Deceased are his wife, Jane C. Rogers Staffen, who died July 9, 1994; an infant daughter, Betty Ann Staffen; and a sister, Margaret Nagy.
