Alvin G. Huffman, 72, of Church Street, Washington, died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 2, 1998, in Washington Hospital following an illness of several months. Mr. Huffman graduated from Washington High School in 1943. He served with the 284th Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theater during World War II and was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. Mr. Huffman was a postal letter carrier for more than 29 years, until his retirement January 3, 1987. On March 29, 1947, he married June Kottner, who survives at home. Also surviving are two sons, Bruce Huffman of Durham, N.C. and John A. Huffman of Washington; seven grandchildren, Shane, Brad, Steven, Sean, Mackenzie, Brian and Heather Huffman; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Madison Huffman; and a niece.
