Shirley Watona Zalar, 52, of Carmichaels, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, in Mt. Morris, with her mother, as a result of an accident when a tree fell on their car. Mrs. Zalar graduated as a registered nurse from Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing and worked as health care administrator at SCI-Waynesburg for 28 years. She was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels, where she served on the board of deacons and was a member of Rices Landing Garden Club. Surviving are her husband, Jim Zalar, who she married in 1967; a son, Dr. Michael Eric Zalar of Stafford, Va.; a brother, Paul "Bus" Pevic of Rogersville; and three sisters, Patricia Ann Shawen of Summerville, S.C., Marlene Smoody of Nemacolin and Pauline Watona of McLean, Va.
