William H. "Bucky" Buchanan, 75, of Washington, died at 11:45 a.m. Monday, March 30, 1998, following a brief illness. Mr. Buchanan attended Washington High School and served in the U.S. Army 258th Engineers during World War II. He was employed at the former Brockway Glass Plant 2 for 15 years and later worked for PennDOT and the Independent Club. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and several social and fraternal organizations, including a 50 year-plus membership in the Loyal Order of Moose 22, where he was governor 16 times and held the Pilgrim Degree, the highest degree in Moosedom. He was a charter member of the Independent Club and played on the softball team. He was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Softball Hall of Fame in 1988 and could pitch a softball 95 miles per hour. Mr. Buchanan was also a member of American Legion Post 175, VFW Post 927, Keystone Progressive Club, Fraternal Order of Bears, Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Pulaski Club, Elks Lodge 776, the Arms Club and Alpine Lodge. On April 6, 1956, he married Mollie Irene Sampson, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Billie Rae Buchanan of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister, Elizabeth "Sis" Ward of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, John W. and James E.
