I. Wayne Tanner, 86, of Greensboro R.D.1 (Mapletown), died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born December 5, 1911, in Willow Tree, Greene Township, Greene County, a son of William Jerimiah and Bessie Ola Morrison Tanner.
A lifelong resident of the Mapletown area, he was a member of the Mapletown United Methodist Church and was recently attending the John Corbley Memorial Baptist Church in Garards Fort.
He was also a member of the Carmichaels Rook Club.
In the 1930s, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. camps in Virginia and California.
Mr. Tanner retired from the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine in January 1974. He also did many types of mechanic work in the local area.
On April 9, 1939, he married Opal Marie Jones, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, David Wayne Tanner, at home; a daughter, Judith Tanner-Mann of Carmichaels; a grandson, Jeffrey Charles Mann; two brothers, Glenn Tanner of Waynesburg and Charles Tanner of Ruff Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Ray, Herschel, Vernon and Burdell Tanner; and five sisters, Blanche Weyant, Pearl Tanner, Margaret Cole, Grace Tanner and Mildred Griego.
