Joseph E. Barbella, 76, of East Maiden Street, Washington, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, May 11, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Barbella owned and operated Barbella's on South Main Street, Washington. He was a graduate of East Washington High School, attended St. Vincent's College, was a graduate of St. Louis School of Aeronautics, and he served in the Army Air Force during World War II in the Pacific Theater, where he received the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. On November 7, 1953, he married Elvera Marchione, who died May 11, 1979. Surviving are a son, Joseph Barbella of Washington; a daughter, Margaret Louise Gibson of Vienna, Ohio; and a sister, Angela Marchione of Washington.
