John Oliverio, 75, of Washington, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, in Washington Hospital. Mr. Oliverio was a 1942 graduate of Trinity High School and attended Penn Commercial College and North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo, N.D. Along with his wife, he owned and operated a small grocery store, he also worked as a salesmen for S. A. Myers Jewelry Store, then later worked as a realtor, retiring in 1961. Mr. Oliverio was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Washington and a member of American Legion Post 175. While serving in the U. S. Air Force during World War II in the 15th Air Force 743 Bomber Squad in Italy, he received the Distinguished Unit Badge with one oak leaf cluster, then received the Middle Eastern Medal with nine bronze stars along with a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Oliverio enjoyed gardening and later worked on two books called "World War II Memories of the Past" which helped raise money for the Washington High School Steel Band. Surviving are his wife, Bessie "Bea" Interval, with whom he married June 4, 1946; two daughters, Donna Bradford of Mooresville, Ind., and Elizabeth Ann Meeks of Claysville; a brother, Sam Oliverio of Washington; five grandchildren, Mamie and James Bradford, Timothy, Sally and Marcus Anthony Meeks; and several nieces and nephews.
