Robert E. Wylie, 84, formerly of Houston, died at 4:55 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 1998, at AUH, Canonsburg. Mr. Wylie had been in failing health for the last six months, but his death was unexpected. A 54-year resident of Houston, Mr. Wylie was a member of the Houston United Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder. He graduated from Hickory High School and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, receiving his funeral directors license in 1944. Mr. Wylie was owner of the Robert E. Wylie Funeral Home of Canonsburg and later of Houston. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy and for many years he ran the ambulance service at The Meadows. On October 4, 1934, he married Lucille Houston, who died July 3, 1974. In December 1978, he married his second wife, Lois Hastings, who died January 26, 1983. Surviving are a son, Dennis R. Wylie of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Patricia Novotny of Houston, Betty Lombardo of Washington and Peggy Jo Skowvron of Washington; nine grandchildren, David Novotny, Darcie West, R. Douglas Novotny, Carla O'Rourke, Carlene Lombardo, Carl Lombardo, Sherri A. Skowvron, Liam K. Wilie and Tourin H. Wylie; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Archie J. Wylie, James Wylie, Wilson Wylie and Marion Wylie; and a sister, Margaret Jane Smiddle.
