Bert Chato, 86, of 520 Liberty Street, California, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 1998, in Washington County Health Center. He was a lifelong resident of California and attended California area schools. Mr. Chato was Catholic. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a custodian by California University of Pennsylvania. Surviving are his wife, Mary Koci Chato; a son, Bertlan Chato of St. Johns, Ariz.; a daughter, Susan Marie Popovich of San Diego, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Amy Chato.
