Adolph F. Conte, 73, formerly of Monongahela, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, in UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a lengthy illness. He was a resident of the Monongahela and Charleroi areas all of his life, where he was a 1941 graduate of Monongahela High School. In 1983, he retired as vice president of the United Food Commercial Workers, Local 23. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy's 3rd Fleet on the USS Shasta AE-6, and fought in the Battle of Japan. For his service time, he received a Pacific Theater ribbon with a bronze star, an American Theater ribbon, a World War II Victory Medal and a Philippines Liberation ribbon. He was a member of the VFW Post 1810 of Brentwood, American Legion Post 302 of Monongahela and the Veterans Club of Monongahela. He was a member and past president of the former ICC Club of Monongahela. Surviving are four sons, Mark Conte of Washington, Mike Conte of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Dolph Conte of Charleroi and Keith Conte of Belle Vernon; two daughters, Marcia Fretz of Belle Vernon and Michelle Conte of Charleroi; two brothers, James Conte and Ralph Conte, both of Monongahela; a sister, Frances Reeves of Charleroi; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
