Louis A. "Peck" Polaski, 91, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, November 8, 1998, in Country Meadows, Bridgeville. Mr. Polaski had lived his entire life in Canonsburg, where he was a charter member of St. Genevieve Worship Site of St. Patrick Parish. He had worked at Standard Tin Plate until 1941. During World War II, he was a steamfitter at Dravo Shipyards on Neville Island, building LSTs for the war effort. After World War II, Mr. Polaski joined Carpenters Union Local 142 of Pittsburgh and became a construction carpenter, working in that trade until his retirement. He was a member of American Fraternal Union Lodge 205, Strabane, since 1925, where he was secretary since 1935. He also was a delegate to 15 quadrennial conventions and served as AFU supreme vice president for eight years. He was a member of White Eagles Lodge 1746 of Canonsburg. Mr. Polaski was an avid sportsman, playing baseball through the 1920s and '30s for the Home Furniture Team. He was active in football and bowling, and was league secretary. He was a member of the Baseball Old Timers Organization in Meadow Lands, where he served as secretary/treasurer for 11 years. On May 28, 1931, he married Frances V. Retzel, who died January 28, 1995. Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Vincenty of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; a son, Louis J. Polaski of Bend, Ore.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Polaski was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are three brothers, Frank Polaski, Pete Polasky and Paul Polasky; four sisters, Regina Rubic, Helen Germanowski, Sophie Rapalski and Julia Karmelowecz.
