Harry C. Bland, 85, of Canonsburg, formerly of Greene County, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospitals-Canonsburg, after being seriously ill for the past three weeks. Mr. Bland had resided in Greene County until 1957, when he moved to Upper Middletown, where he resided until 1994. Most recently, he was a resident of McMurray Hills Manor Nursing Home. He was a member of Upper Middletown Methodist Church and was a 1930 graduate of Rogersville High School. Mr. Bland was a former member of Menallen Township Grange. He was a self-employed farmer and had worked as a lumberjack for five years prior to his employment with the former Peoples Natural Gas Co. He last held the position of station engineer until his retirement in 1997 after 37 years. Mr. Bland was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a technician 5th-grade with the 86th Chemical Battalion in the United Kingdom and France. On April 20, 1940, he married Margaret Rankin Stoneking Bland, who died November 7, 1972. Surviving are a daughter, Lucy E. Corson of Canonsburg; and a grandson, Bobby Corson. Deceased are four brothers, Herbert, Wilbur, Charles and Allen Bland; and a sister, Helen Bland. Mr. Bland was the last of his immediate family.
