Mary J. Calabro, 74, of Campbell Avenue, Washington, died at 12:19 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. Mrs. Calabro was employed in 1946 by Washington Meat Market, was employed as a glassworker for Washington Co. and in her later years was employed as a salesclerk for such stores as The Hub and The Kitty Shop. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of Immaculate Conception Church, of which she was a very active member. She also was a member of Friendship Travel Club. Mrs. Calabro loved to cook, bake, shop and spent time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School. On November 28, 1946, she married Sam "Chopper" Calabro, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Joe C. Calabro of Chester, Va.; two brothers, Joe Ruffa of Erie and Tom Ruffa of Washington; a sister, Anne Elias of Washington; three grandchildren, Sam, Jason and Melissa Calabro; and several nieces and nephews.
