Alva Stephens "Hogan" Bailey, 78, of Mount Morris R.D.1 (Davistown), died Saturday, November 14, 1998, in his home.

He was born June 18, 1920, in Carmichaels, a son of Alva Inghram and Helen Stephens Bailey.
He was a 1938 graduate of Cumberland Township High School in Carmichaels, attended Waynesburg College and was a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles.
Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He also served in the Korean war and retired at the rank of major in 1963.
Following his military service, he worked for 11 years until his retirement as a spare parts coordinator for McDonnell Douglas Corp., St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Bailey was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge in Santa Ana, Calif., where he also was a 32nd-degree member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a charter member of Morningside Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana, a member of the Retired Officers Association and the Aviation Fleet Marines.
Mr. Bailey had resided in Davistown since 1975.
On December 18, 1943, he married Theda Litman, who died December 17, 1989.
Surviving are a daughter, Devonna "Debbie" Boone of Mt. Morris; two sons, Edgar A. Bailey of Jefferson City, Mo., and Verne M. Bailey of Morgantown, W.Va.; six granchildren, James S., John S., Catherine C., Ian Alva S. and Joshua Aaron S. Bailey and Cherida D. Rosak; a great-grandson; a niece and a nephew.
Deceased, in addition to his wife, are two brothers, Thomas E. Bailey, who died in infancy, and Edward Eugene Bailey; and a sister, Flora Frances Bailey.
Funeral arrangements are private and being handled by Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Toys for Tots.
