D. Kent MacCartney, 58, of Claysville, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 1998, at home, after a brief illness. Mr. MacCartney was a 1958 graduate of Claysville High School and a 1962 graduate of Grove City College. He attended Grace Bible Church in West Middletown. Mr. MacCartney was an insurance agent for many insurance companies until he became owner-operator of MacCartney Insurance Agency, retiring in 1989. He was secretary of BPOE Lodge 776 for several years and was an honorary life member, past exalted ruler and past district deputy grand exalted ruler. He was a member of Claysville American Legion Post 639, Arms Club and Bears Club. He served on the board of directors of Greene County Country Club, was active in youth sports for the past 15 years, coached boys basketball, coached and managed youth baseball and served as president of Claysville Youth Baseball Association for the past two years. Mr. MacCartney was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard and was in the Army Reserves in 1968. On June 24, 1978, he married Kathy Six, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, D. Kyle and Ryan C. MacCartney, both at home; a daughter, Tracey MacCartney Jacob of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Susan J. Quinlan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Loria Ann MacCartney of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a niece, several nephews and an aunt.
