Thomas R. Knowlson Jr., 77, of McMurray, died Tuesday, November 24, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Knowlson was a member of Peters Creek United Presbyterian Church. He was a 1939 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School. Mr. Knowlson was a World War II veteran, serving as staff sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764 of McMurray. He was a retired self-employed carpenter who was associated with several contractors in the construction of homes in the South Hills area. Mr. Knowlson enjoyed hunting and gardening and was an acclaimed pigeon flyer and a member of the Washington Pigeon Club. Surviving are his wife, Joanne Twigg; three sons, Thomas R. Knowlson III of South Park Township, Richard F. Knowlson of New Mexico, and Peter B. Knowlson of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Nancy Knowlson Thorne of Greensburg; six grandchildren, Eric, Kelsey, Michael, Caitlin, Ellen and Heidi Rose; Deceased is a brother, Alan McElheny.
