Don E. Cowell, 85, of Spraggs R.D.1, died at 12:12 a.m. Thursday, November 26, 1998, in Smithley Personal Care, Mt. Morris. Mr. Cowell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he saw action in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Ribbon. He owned and operated a farm in Brock, worked for Allegheny Power and for four years worked for Perry Township. He was Methodist. On October 29, 1971, he married Jackie L. Cowell, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Batcho Degler of Purseglove, W.Va., and Judy Phillips of Waynesburg; two grandchildren, James Batcho and Corey Degler; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, James Batcho; and three brothers, Carl, Raymond and Earl Cowell; and two nieces and a nephew. He was the last of his immediate family.
