Josephine J. Haines, 73, of Canonsburg, died Monday, November 2, 1998, in her home. She lived most of her life in Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers and Guild. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Canonsburg 1211, where she had served as regent. Mrs. Haines was employed by the Diocese of Pittsburgh and was diocesan chairman under Bishop Leonard. She also was employed at the Washington County Tax Assessment Office. She was a member of the Assessors Association of Pennsylvania, serving as president of the association and its Southwestern District. She was president of North Strabane Democratic Women, helped start the Canonsburg Youth Association and was a member of North Strabane Volunteer Fire Department and its Women's Auxiliary. On October 20, 1946, she married John C. Haines, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Emory J. Haines of Severn, Md., Dennis R. Haines of Monessen and John E. Haines of Canonsburg; three daughters, Cheryl Ann Santora of Canonsburg, Kimberly Jo Haines of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Virginia Haines of Canonsburg; a brother, Domenick Ortuso of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Connie Sedmak and Rose Haines, both of Canonsburg; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
