Howard R. Smith Sr., 71, of Grant Street, Houston, died Friday, November 27, 1998, at home. Mr. Smith was an electrical tester for McGraw-Edison and belonged to the United Methodist Church in Houston. He was a member of the Muse Independent Club, American Legion Post 902 of Houston, White Eagles, Eagles Club and Westland Sportsman's Club. On October 15, 1949, he married Elsie Hall Smith, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Howard Smith Jr. and Patrick Smith, both of Sylmar, Calif.; two daughters, Judy Loar of Washington and Cindy Black of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Jason A., Robert L., Erik A., William H. and Lindsey D. Black and Megan M. Smith; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret "Skip" Wilson of Lakeland, Fla. Deceased is a brother, George A. Smith.
