John M. Cox, 79, of Waynesburg, died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg. Mr. Cox served five years in the Armed Services. He first served as a member of the National Guard and then joined Company K of Waynesburg, serving in the European Theater as a first lieutenant in communications. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge, where he earned three battle stars. He was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793, a 50-year member of American Legion Post 330, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and a member of the National Rifleman's Association. Mr. Cox was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 5 as an electrician for more than 40 years. He enjoyed gardening. On February 26, 1944, he married Edith Floyd, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Carolyn F. Bittner and Joann E. Mayhew, both of Morgantown, W.Va.; a son, John F.
