Joseph S. Ptaszek, 76, of North Main Street, Washington, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 1998, in Kade Nursing Home, Washington. Prior to retirement, Mr. Ptaszek was employed for 35 years with the Union Railroad. He was an active member of St. John's Orthodox Church in East Pittsburgh; served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater and waters around South America; was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion; and was a 1941 graduate of Scott High School. On October15, 1983, he married Dorothy Fowler, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Leslie Ptaszek of Turtle Creek and Jacquelyn Shields of Las Vegas, Nev.; two stepsons, Hal Shipe of Washington and Mark Shipe of Georgia; three stepdaughters, Linda Shipe of Washington, Connie Selvaggi of Washington and Karen Martin of Florida; two brothers, John Ptaszek of Greentree and Frank Ptaszek of Mechanicsburg; and two sisters, Helen DiCello of Homestead, Pittsburgh, and Anne Isaac of Glendale.
