Henry Berger, 85, of Clarksville (Pitt Gas), died Friday, November 6, 1998, in St. Francis Medical Center, Pittsburgh. He was a retired coal miner from Gateway Coal Co. and was a Jefferson Township supervisor for two terms. Mr. Berger lived in Pitt Gas for more than 60 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Clarksville, United Mine Workers of America, a charter member of Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company and a former member of Sun Valley Hunting Club. On October 22, 1938, he married Mary Simensky, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Henry Berger Jr. of Cary, N.C.; a daughter, Patricia Gavlick of Denver, Colo.; two grandsons, Jason Berger and Douglas Gavlick; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hilda Hesse of New York City, N.Y.
