Harold Shaffer, 82, of Wildwood, Fla., died Tuesday, November 3, 1998, in Franklin Care Center, Waynesburg.

He was born April 20, 1916, in Willard, W.Va., a son of Harry Sears and Eva Lena Spring Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer retired as a coal miner from Consolidation Coal Co. Mine No. 32 in Owings, W.Va.
A former resident of Shinnston, W.Va., he had made his home in Florida since 1966.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shinnston, where he had served as a deacon. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of St. John's Lodge 24 AF&AM, Shinnston. He also had served as a Boy Scout leader.
Mr. Shaffer was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in England.
On January 31, 1935, he married Virginia Frances Burnett Shaffer, who died December 3, 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley M. Pickett of Leesburg, Fla., and Judith A. Johnson of Oxford, Fla.; a son, Charles H. Shaffer of Crucible; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Smallridge of Bethlehem, W.Va.
Deceased are a brother, James W. Shaffer; two sisters, Roxanna Sturms and Bernice Miller; a grandson, Thomas H. Pickett Jr.; and a great-granddaughter.
Services and interment will be held in Florida.
