Olive F. Plants Butler, 81, of East 26th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio, died Monday, September 28, 1998, in Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born March 22, 1917, in Eighty Four, a daughter of Oliver B. and Laura C. Morrison Black. She had lived in Ashtabula the past six months, previously living in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and in Ebensburg.
Mrs. Butler was a member of New Smyrna Beach United Church of Christ and a past member of the First Christian Church in Ebensburg and First Christian Church in Washington.
She was a court stenographer for Washington and Cambria counties for 27 years, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Pennsylvania Court Reporters Association, New Smyrna Beach Chapter 3 Order of Eastern Star, New Smyrna Beach Garden Club and a past member of Ebensburg Betterment Council.
Mrs. Butler served as president of the Ebensburg chapter of Dale Carnegie Leadership Training and was a published author, writing "By Order of the Court."
She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and art.
Surviving are her husband, retired Lt. Col. Robert P. Butler; four children, H. James Plants Jr. of Hillsboro, Ohio, Martha Clark Kampf of Rome Township, Ohio, Mary Jo Simpson of Sanford, Fla., and Betti R. Zullo of Salisbury, Md.; three stepchildren, James E. Butler of Kent, Ohio, Ronald S. Butler of Merced, Calif., and Debra L. Tiedeman of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Thomas of Bentleyville and Katheryn Longdon of the state of California.
Deceased are her first husband, Harold J. Plants, who died in 1976; three brothers, Elmer, Raymond and Carl Black; and two sisters, Pearl Hufford and Jane Black, who died in infancy.
