Charles Byers Jr., 96, of Grant Street, Monongahela, died Friday, October 9, 1998, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Mr. Byers was a lifelong resident of Monongahela and was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served in several capacities, including as trustee, on the administrative board and as former choir director. He was retired as a machinist from Combustion Engineering, East Monongahela. Surviving are three grandchildren, Robert W. Potter II, Leigh Ann Pogue, Lisa M. Byers; five great-grandchildren, Robert W. III, Amanda L. and Tori A. Potter and Alexander D. and Jordan L. Pogue. Deceased are his wife, Leona Byrley Byers, who died September 5, 1996; a son, Charles Byers III; and a daughter, Jeanne L. Potter.
