James S. Moore, 73, of West Alexander, formerly of Washington, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington. Mr. Moore was a member of First Christian Church, West Alexander. He served as a private first class in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Moore was a postal clerk at the West Alexander branch of the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1985. In his earlier years, he was employed at Crossroads Restaurant in West Alexander, Hazel-Atlas Glass and McKean and Burt Moving Co. He was a member of West Alexander American Legion Post 656, and he enjoyed fishing. On February 26, 1966, in First Christian Church, West Alexander, with the Rev. Oliver Burd officiating, he married Elaine M. Chess, who survives. Also surviving are a son, James S. Moore II of Washington; a daughter, Ruby Moore of West Alexander; a sister, Blanche Zediker of Washington; four grandchildren, Jessica Lea, Brittany Rae, Nathan James and Kaitlyn Nicole Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
