Thomas C. Columbus, 74, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday, October 4, 1998, in Kings Daughter's Medical Center in Ashland. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Columbus was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources. Mr. Columbus served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 10017, American Legion Post 76 and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland. Mr. Columbus was married twice. His first wife, Leona Sheaffer Columbus, died in 1966; his second wife, Virginia Burns Columbus, survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan D. Columbus of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Christina M. Columbus of Marysville; five sons, Thomas C. Columbus of Harrisburg, Joseph A. Columbus of Marysville, James E. Columbus of Lexington, Ky., Allen L. Columbus of Reading and William F. Columbus of Carlisle; a sister, Dolores Paul of Cecil; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Columbus was cremated in Ashland, Ky. Friends will be received at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 24, in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Cecil, where a Mass will be celebrated. Internment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
