Robert E. "Curly" Piper, 81, of Clarksville (Williamstown), died Thursday, October 29, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg. Mr. Piper was a coal miner at Gateway Coal Co., retiring Jan. 5, 1979. He lived in the Williamstown area of Clarksville since 1966. Mr. Piper was a member of Clarksville Christian Church, United Mine Workers of America, F&AM Lodge 237 of Beallsville, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and the Pittsburgh Consistory. On January 24, 1939, he married Evelyn Emerson, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Nyswaner of Clarksville; two grandsons, Brad and Ryan Nyswaner; a great-grandson; and a sister, June Dobbins of Tobaccoville, N.C.
