Baptist W. Appolonia, 79, of First Avenue, New Eagle, died Friday, October 30, 1998, at home. Mr. Appolonia served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 7th Division in the European Theater, and in 1979, retired from Mathies Mine. He was a member of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, Monongahela, a member of Monongahela Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1409, Monongahela American Legion Post 302 and United Mine Workers Local 2244. He retired from New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Neva Gaggini, whom he married February 11, 1950; a daughter, Dorene Zavarello of Monongahela; two sisters, Mary Pietroboni and Martha Razzano, both of New Eagle; and a granddaughter, Audrey Zavarello.
