Joseph H. Kelley, 83, of Avella Road, Avella, died Wednesday, September 16, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Kelley was a member of Israel AME Church of West Middletown, where he had served as a trustee. He had worked for the former Avella Lumber Co. He was a member of Avella Sportsman's Club and enjoyed writing and genealogy. A 1931 graduate of Avella High School, Mr. Kelley was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army. His medals included the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal and the Victory Medal. He was the last of his immediate family. Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Deceased are his wife, Imogene Price Kelley; three brothers, William, Frank and John Kelley; and six sisters, Alyce Patterson, Thelma Fields, Martha Jacobs, Montie Kelley, Annabelle Williams and Hazel Valaderez.
