John D. Bishop, 88, of Carmichaels, died at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 1998, in Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. Mr. Bishop resided in Cumberland Township, Greene County, for most of his life. He was a trustee of the former New Providence (Glades) Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels and also served as a deacon for Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels. He was a member of UMW Local 6290 of Nemacolin. In his younger years, he worked as a timberman. He retired from Nemacolin Mine in 1968 after 34 years of service. He operated a watch and clock repair shop in home after retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. Surviving are his wife, Gladys L. Liston; two sons, Melvin M. Bishop of Chambersburg and Kent E. Bishop of Clarksville, Md.; five grandchildren, John Michael, David Jason and Kara Marie Bishop, Sandra Ann Edwards and Kimberly Ann Gibbs; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda King of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Ruhama Rexroad of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
