George A. Layne Sr., 71, of Hibbs, Fayette County, formerly of Daisytown R.D.1, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, September 18, 1998, in his home. Mr. Layne was retired from Pittsburgh Tug Co. and was formerly employed by Mon River Towing. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his second wife, Lou Roseberry Layne; six daughters, Maria Bendis, Arlene Klinger and Carol Layne, all of Uniontown, Rose Humbel of Waynesburg, Susan Layne of Washington and Joyce Layne of Bentleyville; three sons, John Henry Layne of Pittsburgh, Jonathan Layne of West Alexander and Arthur Layne of Monessen; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepdaughters, including Cindy Brady of Hibbs; three stepsons; 18 stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, James Layne of Pittsburgh and Lee Layne of Racine, Ohio; two sisters, Sandy and Carol Layne, both of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his first wife, Ladyi R. Layne, who died October 25, 1979; and two sons, George Layne, who died in 1978, and Michael Layne, who died in 1989.
