Alva Hayes, 86, of 1167 Bruce Street, Washington, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 1998, in his home following a lengthy illness. Prior to his retirement in 1972, he was a steelworker for Universal Cyclops of Bridgeville for many years. Mr. Hayes was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and he was a member of the Alpine Lodge of Washington. Mr. Hayes also enjoyed attending The Meadows racetrack. On February 24, 1946, he married Mary Martin, who died January 11, 1997. Surviving are two brothers, Raymond H. Hayes of Washington and Robert F. Hayes of Tecumseh, Mich.; a sister, Betty Malie of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Fred, Allan, Russell and Norman Hayes; and a sister, Georgia Barnett.
