The Rev. Alfred David Mason Sr., 80, of North Fort Myers, Fla., died Sunday, September 13, 1998, at Blue Ridge Acres, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. During a ministry that spanned more than 40 years, he pastored four churches, which were in Smithton, Staunton, Va., Springfield Gardens, N.Y., and Egg Harbor City, N.J. He taught special education at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mt. Holly, N.J., for 17 years. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Letha Beryl Granger Mason; two sons, Alfred David Mason Jr. of Charles Town, W.Va., and Herbert Joseph Mason of Harpers Ferry; two daugthers, Sandra Cheryl Calvert of Kalispell, Mont., and Merilyn Kay Romero of Coral Springs, Fla.; two brothers, John Allen Mason of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Burdette Mason of Sayre; two sisters, Bessie Greco of Waynesburg and Edna Mae King of Lakeland, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Arthur Mason; and a sister, Virginia McClure. Services were held September 16 at Loudoun Valley Church of Nazarene, Hillsboro, Va., with the Rev. Athan Burch officiating. Ministry spanned more than 40 years
Mr. Mason was a 1937 graduate of Waynesburg High School and a graduate of Eastern Nazarene College, with a degree in theology and psychology. He received a master's degree in special education and 30 hours toward a doctorate at Trenton State College.
