Harry R. Gittings, 85, of Nemacolin, formerly of Philadelphia, died Thursday, September 24, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington. Mr. Gittings had resided in Nemacolin since 1970. He retired from the Philadelphia Police Department after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. On July 20, 1970, he married Helen Crable, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Betty Ann Simonsen of Cape May, N.J., a stepdaughter, Lee Kramer of Florida; a stepson, Wesley Thompson of Newark, Del.; four grandchildren, Frank Simonsen, Christopher Simonsen, Erik Simonsen and Brenda Friedman; and one great-grandson.
