Merne E. Pizzi, 79, of Ninth and Bonar streets, Waynesburg, died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 1998, in Washington Hospital. Mrs. Pizzi spent her early life in Fayette County and the rest of her life in Washington and Greene counties. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesburg, where she was a former deaconess. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star of Washington, a past president of Washington County Medical Auxiliary, a volunteer for Greene County Memorial Hospital, a past secretary for the Red Cross in Waynesburg, a member of the Waynesburg Women's Club and one of the founders of the Women's Bowling League of Washington. Mrs. Pizzi had worked as a secretary for her husband's medical practice in Washington. On July 16, 1938, she married her husband of 60 years, Dr. Wilson B. Pizzi, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet Pizzi McConnell of Mt. Lebanon and Deborah Pizzi Campbell of Waynesburg; two sons, W. Bryan Pizzi II and J. Preston Pizzi, both of Washington; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Haggart of Roseburg, Ore. A brother, Charles Haggart, is deceased.
