John W. Haught, 85, of South Main Street, formerly of Hawthorne Road, Washington, died at 8:51 a.m. Monday, September 28, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Haught was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and was in charge of the CCD Program several years ago. He was a graduate of El Dorado High School, El Dorado Junior Business College, El Dorado, Kan., and was a graduate of Penn Commercial College, where he was a former instructor. Mr. Haught had worked at Nickles Bakery and Washington Barber and Beauty Supply. He worked for 33 years in transportation associated with Suwak Trucking Co. in various operation and sales capacities. He was a member of Greater Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Laurel Mountain Traffic Association, the Traffic and Transportation Association of Pittsburgh and he was a past president of Washington Rotary Club, where he was a member for 57 years. For many years, he chaired the committee that selects a student to be considered for a full-year scholarship abroad. He was personally involved with many of his students, helping to prepare them for their duties as student ambassadors. He also received the Paul Harris Fellow Award and Service Above Self Plaque. Mr. Haught was the subject of a profile published in the Observer-Reporter June 15, 1998. On July 13, 1940, he married Lenore Griffin, who died November 29, 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Sarah A. Iannone of Sacramento, Calif., and Catherine H. Schwarzback of Eighty Four; three grandchildren, Michael and Steven Iannone and Megan Schwarzback; and several nieces and nephews.
