Robert Eugene Rutan, 84, of Washington, died Thursday, September 3, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Rutan was a member of First Christian Church of Washington, where he was formerly a deacon and usher. He worked as a meter reader for Columbia Gas Co. more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, American Legion. On November 28, 1970, in Washington, he married Florence Crouch, who survives. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his first wife, Edith Leppert Rutan, who died in 1968; and a brother, Howard Rutan.
