Leonard "Red" "Pete" Carpenter, 76, of Buffalo Township, formerly of the state of California, died at 12:56 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 1998, in the home of his caregiver, Keannith P. Main. Mr. Carpenter retired as a janitor for Trinity School District, having worked at Trinity High School and the former Log Pile School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He was a member of American Legion Post 175 of Washington and Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club in Amity. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Sue Carpenter of the state of California; four stepsons, Don Clutter, Jay Miles and Wayne Miles, all of the state of California, and Chris Sampson of Oregon; several stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three sisters, Lila and Eloise Carpenter, who died in infancy, and Ethel M. Cummins; and four brothers, Elmer, Austin, Norman and Ralph Carpenter. At the request of the deceased, services and burial in Claysville Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Hummell and Barnhill Memorial Chapel, Washington.
