James Henry Markle, 84, of Laurel Avenue, Washington, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 14, 1999, in Washington Hospital. He has been in declining health the past six months. Mr. Markle was a member of Avery United Methodist Church of Washington. He was a graduate of Sewickley Township High School and retired as an electrical engineer with Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh. Mr. Markle was active in Washington Senior Citizens, was a Bible study group leader, a volunteer at Washington Hospital, a member of Derry Volunteer Fire Department for many years, a member of Derry Lions Club and a local pastor. In June 1940, he married Ruby Cogan, who died December 19, 1983. Surviving are a son, the Rev. Richard D. Markle of Ridgway; a daughter, Muriel M. Slade of Stoystown; a sister, Bertha Mayers of Bedford, Ohio; five grandchildren, Terrie Huston, Karen and David Slade and Pam and Kevin Markle; and four great-grandchildren.
