Thursday, March 4, 1999 John J. Hewitt Longtime farmer was retired security guard John J. Hewitt, 69, of West Finley R.D.2, died unexpectedly at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital emergency room. He was born September 30, 1929, in Richhill Township (Crabapple), a son of John Nicholas and Lulu Zelphia Pettit Hewitt, and had resided in Richhill Township most of his life. Mr. Hewitt was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge and attended Nebo and Burnsville schools. Mr. Hewitt was a farmer most of his life and was a former employee of Findlay Refractories, the Bishop Creamery and the I. Richman Co. in Washington. He was employed as a security guard with Hackney Security, Firm Security and was last employed by Pinkerton Security at Greene County Memorial Hospital and the Department of Public Welfare office in Waynesburg prior to his 1991 retirement because of ill health. He enjoyed woodworking and raising quail, chickens and peacocks. He was a former musician within the tri-state area, where he played the electric steel guitar and often accompanied his late brother, Dolph E. Hewitt. Surviving are his wife, Mary Leota Finnegan Hewitt, whom he married April 18,1953; two sons, William E. Hewitt of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and John W. Hewitt of Wind Ridge R.D.1; a daughter, Linda D. Naylor of West Finley R.D.2; two brothers, Don T. and Fred W. Hewitt, both of Graysville; seven grandchildren, Chris Naylor, Megan Arbogast, Jamie Connor and Janice, Beth, John W. Jr. and Billy Hewitt; two great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren, Tom Hoag and Angie Cox. Deceased are three brothers, James A., Herman B. and Dolph E. Hewitt; three sisters, Jane Lucille Whitlatch, Dorothy Alice Williams and Virginia "Sally" Barnhart; a granddaughter, Nicole Arbogast; and a step-grandson, Christopher Hoag.
