James Clair Cowden, 75, of McDonald, formerly of Hickory, died Saturday, October 14, 2000, in Washington County Health Center, Washington.
He was born March 14, 1925 in Hickory, a son of J. Ard and Gladys McCalmont Cowden.
Mr. Cowden was a graduate of Hickory High School.
He was a dairy farmer.
Mr. Cowden was previously married to Mary W. Williams, who survives.
He later married Sonya Phipps, who died in 1998.
Surviving are three sons, James Clair Cowden II of Bulger, Thomas M. Cowden of Claysville and David Allan Cowden of Mocksville, N.C.; a daughter, Jennifer Keis of McDonald; a brother, Thomas Cowden of Hickory; two sisters, Grace Wert of Muncie and Janie Dunkle of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a grandson, Thomas Farrar; and two brothers, Joe and John Cowden.
All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by Michael H. Heinrich Funeral Home, Claysville.
