James M. Marshall, 82, of Washington, formerly of Laughlintown, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in his home.
He was born April 28, 1918, in Wilkinsburg, a son of William G. and Belle McClymonds Marshall.
Mr. Marshall graduated from Washington & Jefferson College, Wharton Graduate School of Finance and Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
He retired from Mellon Bank in 1983, after 34 years of service, as manager of several offices including Washington, and was vice president of the personal banking department at the principal office.
During his banking career, he served as assistant bank examiner with the Comptroller of the Currency and was vice president of the Regional Industrial Development Corp. during is reorganization in 1974.
Mr. Marshall served in the U.S. Navy during World War II at Guadalcanal and earned three battle stars in the Pacific.
As a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Mayor of Washington, he helped initiate a Charter Study Plan for the city in 1968.
He served as chairman of Catawba District of Allegheny Trails Council of the Boy Scouts and was the recipient of the Order of Beaver from Boy Scouts of America for outstanding service.
Mr. Marshall was a member of Pennsylvania Free Farm Association, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Wilkinsburg Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mildred Buell; two daughters, Joan Harris of Columbia, Tenn., and Marjorie J. Marshall of Laguna Beach, Fla.; a son, William G. Marshall of Lake Zurich, Ill.; a granddaughter, Marianne Marshall; and a sister, Mary Hinkens of Claremont, N.H.
Deceased is a brother, William G. Marshall Jr.
